Sensory & Story

"Sensory play is an important part of early childhood as it provides opportunities for children to actively use their senses to support all areas of development"

Sensory play has an important role in a child's development.  All the senses: sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste can be incorporated into sensory play.  When babies are born, the areas in their brain that process sensory information is not yet connected.
Providing opportunities for children to actively use their senses as they explore their world through ‘sensory play’ is crucial to brain development – it helps to build nerve connections in the brain’s pathways.

This leads to a child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks and supports cognitive growth, language development, gross motor skills, social interaction, and problem-solving skills.
